Diabetes is a disease that is related to hormonal imbalance and this imbalance is first noticed by the loss of hair.

There are many reasons for hair loss due to this hormonal imbalance: Cited below are some links which show that hair loss and diabetes are inter-related:

1] There is poor blood circulation in the body when you are suffering from diabetes which affects the hair follicle from operating normally leading to hair loss. In the normal course growth of hair is found to be for 2-6 years than there comes a period where hair growth slackens down and finally these hairs fall off or rather die and in its place new strands of hair grow. When there is poor circulation of blood the hair falls out more quickly and new hairs don't replace the old ones thus creating thinner hair and more hair loss.

2] If you are suffering from diabetes then there are chances that you may be more susceptible to skin aliments and this can also affect your scalp causing hair loss. Due to this poor skin condition there are both bacterial as well as fungal infections of the scalp preventing normal hair growth process.

3] Many a times the medications taken for controlling diabetes hinders in the normal hair growth functions as the body takes time to adjust to these medications , you should know that you will lose hair at the beginning of your treatment for diabetes.

4] Diabetes can also cause a lot of physiological and psychological problems like stress and anxiety. Stress and anxiety have a direct affect on your hair loss problem. Hair loss could also be due to dehydration. Dehydration along with stress and anxiety can not only destroy your hair growth but can also hinder new hair growth.

Though there are a few suggestions to help solve your hair loss:

1] You can always wait to see if this problem of hair loss will get solved by itself after sometime of starting off with medication. Though this may not be an overnight process and may sometimes take a couple of months.

2] Drink plenty of fluids or even water so that you don't get dehydrated, make it a habit of drinking at least 8-10 glasses of water.

3] Exercise regularly so as to increase your blood circulation as even your head will benefit from this exercise regime.
